Mubadala Citi DC Open

ATP 500 · WTA 500 · HardThis week

Conditions

Washington DC, at the FitzGerald Tennis Center. The first hard-court 500 of the US summer swing, and the men's draw shrinks from 48 to 32 this year, which is a notably tougher path for anyone outside the top seeds. DC's July humidity plays slow and heavy despite the hard surface, closer to a grinder's court than the pace suggests on paper. Men and women share the site the same week, so the board is deep from day one.

Storylines

  • de Minaur vs Tsitsipas is the marquee first-round draw and the highest-volume match on the board, trading near a coin flip at 58/42. Exactly the kind of price where the graded read is worth checking before the market settles.
  • Draper vs Michelsen is priced 56/44 to Draper. A seeded name against a live American in front of a home crowd is usually where public money and credible money separate.
  • Venus Williams vs Potapova will draw the most attention and the least efficient pricing on the board at 84/16. Attention markets are where the losing-record money tends to show up.
  • Slow, humid hard courts blunt big serving. Be careful assuming a server's clean hard-court record travels to DC in late July.

Los Cabos Open

ATP 250 · HardThis week

Conditions

Pacific-coast hard courts in Los Cabos, Mexico, the 10th edition. Grigor Dimitrov is back on a wildcard for the first time since 2019 and headlines a field that also carries Norrie, Shapovalov, Brooksby and Moutet. Running the same week as Washington splits the US-based names between the two draws, so this is a thinner field than the entry list suggests at a glance, which historically means wider pricing.

Storylines

  • Dimitrov opens against Kouame at 66/34. A returning name on a wildcard is one of the harder pricing problems on tour, since reputation and current form rarely agree.
  • Svrcina vs Walton carries the most early volume in the draw at 40/60, which is usually the tell for where the informed money is actually looking.
  • Three matches sit inside 57/42 on day one. A 250 field this flat is where the aligned read earns its keep, because the market itself is admitting it does not know.
